A Dangerous Lesson

Michael Pybus

Shipton is pleased to present A Dangerous Lesson, a solo exhibition by Michael Pybus.

Pybus’ paintings operate in a space between narrative suggestion and painterly ambiguity. Figures and environments emerge through expressive gestures and layered surfaces, creating scenes that feel both familiar and unsettling.

The index balance humour, melancholy and tension. Characters appear suspended within psychological landscapes, where objects, gestures and fragments of architecture act as emotional cues rather than literal descriptions.

Through loose figuration and shifting spatial logic, Pybus constructs images that feel unstable yet intimate, inviting viewers to interpret scenes that remain intentionally unresolved.
